I have a copy of a death certificate (RD586/00 0005) for a Stewart Guthrie - joiner- married to Margaret Greig. The date of death is given as 24 February 1899. His age is given as 74. The informant is his son James Guthrie

DALMELLINGTON OPR: 'James Gregg of the ship ?....... and Ann Drummond had a natural daughter baptised 10th October 1826 named Margaret. She was born 27th September 1824'.

As James was a sailor we can assume Margaret was born in his absence whilst at sea and the child was christened on his return. We do not as yet know if the couple married.

NoteI: also have Margaret's Death Certificate' (652/01 0031) Her date of death is 9 February 1900. She is described as the widow of Stewart Guthrie joiner and the daughter of James Greig - captain Merchant Service'. Regards, Tom Guthrie
