Alexander Baird Gregg is assumed to be a child to this family F276], in that his siblings are recorded in Scottish Church Records, and numbered from '2nd to 7th child'.
It would appear by his age and loction that Alexander is likely to have been the 1st child [ADG 2004].

Headstone in Auchinleck states Alexander Baird Gregg died Age 53 on 7 Jan 1848 - He was known locally as the 'Skilly Doctor' [Ref. Stan Hodge Nov 2004].
The M.I inscription given in Dane Love's excellent little book "The History of Auchinleck - Village and Parish"; Carn Publishing, Cumnock,1991; ISBN 0951812807.reads as follows:

Wha was a skilly Doctor,
His labours he did freely gie,
It wasna gowd he wrocht for;
A fee he seldom ever sought,
And ne'er frae a puir body,
Was weel content gif he gat food,

As long's he dwelt among us here
Baith rich and puir did bless him,
And noo that he's been ta'en awa',
At weel-a-wat we'll miss him.
